Grünberg (dws). In January, Karin Rühl and Daniel Mandler carried out a fundraising hike over 154 kilometers for the benefit of the flood victims in the Ahr valley. In December, both found a sympathetic ear at Grünberger companies so that the donation box could be filled again with plenty. In addition, there was another two-day fundraising hike that Rühl worked out with her daughter Helena. In addition, parents handed out warm sweaters, the sunflower fed the hikers with 17 kilograms of bananas at the start and drinks Riedmann guaranteed that the long-distance hikers did not have to go thirsty.
A hiking route was developed under the motto “100 kilometers in a maximum of 24 hours”, whereby the participants could cover sections of 25 kilometers around Grünberg. In addition, everyone was able to join the donation hike individually. The first stage in particular was family-friendly because you could get off in Göbelnrod (two kilometers) and Saasen (nine kilometers) and use public transport to go home.
The starting point was the Grünberg market square on December 28 at 12 noon and the return was at around 11 a.m. the following day. The first stop was scheduled around 6 p.m., the second around midnight after completing the 50 kilometers. The third break took place in Grünberg in the early morning.
A total of around 50 people set off in challenging weather conditions with storms and rain showers, whereby weatherproof and waterproof clothing was an advantage. Among them were participants from Switzerland, Spain and Lower Bavaria. In the end, eight hikers with Karin and Helena Rühl arrived at the Grünberg market square, and the hardships of the previous night could already be seen for a good cause. As a reward, they and the volunteers received a medal of honor from Karin Rühl. The catering was provided in sometimes difficult terrain by the Stehr and Schmidt families from Ulrichstein and Frankfurt and Erhard Scholze, who provided assistance.
Before the hike, 755 euros had already been collected and before and during the hike a sealed box was available for further donations, whereby the total amount of the donation has yet to be determined, which will go entirely to the Hoffnungswerk eV.
