Once once more, phone scammers have been successful with the elderly. In three cases, the unknown perpetrators stole over 140,000 francs in cash and jewelry worth tens of thousands of francs.
The victims were three women between the ages of 63 and 88, as the Aargau cantonal police announced on Saturday. Pressured for hours on the phone, the three women from Aargau let themselves be carried away into handing over money and jewelry to unknown couriers or depositing them at an agreed place.
On (yesterday) Friday alone, 50 reports of telephone fraud attempts were received, the police write. Most of the people called would have seen through the scam right away. According to the police, the telephone scammers operating from abroad would not be as active if the scam stopped working. The police also assume that there is a considerable number of unreported cases in the form of cases that would never be reported out of shame.
Once once more, the police warns: Those called should never get involved in such conversations and end them immediately. In addition, claims should never be accepted. The police would never ask for money or jewelry to be held. Money or valuables should never be handed over to unknown people or laid out somewhere. (SDA/chs)
