LR Luisser: “Primary care units are the answer to many questions regarding optimal health care”
St.Pölten (OTS) – On the occasion of the opening of the first primary care center in Lower Austria five years ago – the PVE Böheimkirchen – representatives from the health system discussed “Primary care in Lower Austria – diversity, innovation, future” in the new Campus Hall in Krems. At the start five years ago, every project was new territory, but PVE have now become established. Together with individual ordinations and group practices in cooperation with mobile services, established therapists and health professionals, they provide care for the population in the established area and form primary care. There are currently nine locations in Lower Austria, more will open next year or are being planned.
“Primary care units are the answer to many questions regarding optimal health care. PVE offer many benefits for the patient and the PVE teams, from long opening hours to cross-professional collaboration. In addition, PVEs should also contribute to relieving the burden on cost-intensive hospital outpatient clinics and to the efficient use of financial resources in the health system in the interests of the patient,” explains State Councilor NÖGUS Chairman Christoph Luisser. “In order to ensure optimal care, we want primary care units to be created in all districts in Lower Austria.”
Robert Leitner, chairman of the ÖGK regional office committee in Lower Austria, emphasizes the good cooperation between the system partners:
“Dedicated doctors, motivated employees at the individual locations and good cooperation between partners in the health system have shaped the development of PVE in Lower Austria to date. This joint commitment from all those involved will continue to be needed in the future for the further expansion of PVE and the further development of primary care.”
“The further expansion of primary care is more than important because, unfortunately, we are still lagging behind the Scandinavian countries. This becomes clear, among other things, in the healthy years of life over 65, which here are only regarding half as many as in Scandinavia,” says Dr. Max Wudy, chairman of the Lower Austrian Medical Association’s resident doctors, adds: “The achievements of the PVE, such as multidisciplinary cooperation, are undisputed and should therefore be extended to all forms of practice, including individual practices.”
After a keynote speech regarding the societal challenges in primary care by the head of the Competence Center for Gerontology and Health Research at the Karl Landsteiner Private University of Health Sciences, Dr. Franz Kolland, practical projects were presented. Regina Gattinger (dietologist, PVE Böheimkirchen), Barbara Fischer-Perko, MA (ÖGK) and Mag. Alexandra Benn-Ibler, MAS (“Tut gut!”) presented the PVE Böheimkirchen Kids Health Club. At the “Healthy Elementary School” in Böheimkirchen, children learn more regarding topics that affect their health. For two and a half years, Dr. Christoph Powondra (KL, ÖGAM and PVE Böheimkirchen) and Dr. Helmut Dultinger (KL Private University, ÖGAM and Hainfeld group practice) is working on further developing the coding of diagnoses. Dr. Peter Klar (PVZ Wienerwald) and Alexander Hofstätter (Managing Director, Hofstätter Healthcare GmbH) spoke regarding optimizing IT processes in ordinations and what role patients can play in this.
