Mental confusion is one of the symptoms caused by the coronavirus and, therefore, has gained prominence in scientific research published in recent years. However, the appearance of “brain fog” is relatively common: it can also be associated with cancer treatments, mental health problems, stress, lack of sleep and nutritional deficiencies.
Even though it is not recognized as a disease, the problem can affect people’s daily lives in some ways. Among the consequences of mental confusion are lack of clarity, memory problems and difficulty concentrating.
According to pediatric endocrinologist Anisha Patel and UK National Health Service (NHS) physician Amir Khan, mental confusion can be improved by adopting five attitudes. The tips were given on a TV show on the British channel ITVX. Check out:
keep your body healthy
Behaviors that improve blood flow to the brain are key. Not smoking, reducing alcohol intake, maintaining a healthy weight and practicing physical exercises, for example, are activities that can help.
Develop new skills
Learning new things, especially when we are overloaded, helps keep the brain active, improving concentration capacity and increasing memory. Learning a new language, a new instrument, sewing or even starting to practice a sport are some of the activities suggested by experts.
get enough sleep
Having quality sleep every night can ensure, in addition to rest, the improvement of brain health, memory consolidation and help to learn new things efficiently.
be organized
Take control of your day. Listing the priorities to be developed is a way to stay focused and prevent us from forgetting our daily goals. However, it is recommended to make a short list of activities and not just rely on memory.
Get exposed to nature
Scientific evidence shows that spending time outdoors improves mood, and research has shown that people who live near green areas have fewer psychological problems. Depression and anxiety, for example, affect the ability to concentrate and think.
