Baking Granola: This mistake ruins every recipe

If you make granola yourself, you should always keep an eye on your oven while baking. Because as easy as it is to make the crunchy muesli yourself, it can be done just as quickly burn. And nobody can do anything with burnt granola anymore. All the sadder when the homemade breakfast ends up in the trash can. Luckily we know a few tipswith which you can prevent scorching or burning.

5 tips for the perfect crunchy muesli

  • Make sure your oven isn’t set too hot – and check the condition of your granola regularly while it’s baking.
  • Remove very small and fine ingredients from your granola mixture, such as chia seeds, hemp seeds, puffed amaranth or tender oatmeal. Because: These foods tend to burn particularly easily and quickly. However, you don’t have to do without chia seeds and co. completely: They can be mixed with the granola even following baking.
  • When it comes to oil, be sure to choose a product that can withstand high temperatures. Also in order not to lose valuable ingredients due to the heat. It is better to stay away from native, cold-pressed oils and instead use coconut oil, rapeseed oil or cocoa butter for your homemade granola.
  • Whole nuts turn black quickly in the oven. We therefore recommend that you chop the nuts roughly beforehand. You will also give your granola an extra portion of crunch.
  • Crunchy oat flakes can be briefly roasted in a coated pan with a little oil.

Extra tip: This keeps the crunchy muesli crunchy for longer

Proper storage is key! Anyone who keeps leftover granola in an airtight container, such as a storage jar with a lid, will be able to enjoy the crunchy muesli the next day and the day following that.

By the way: You can also prepare granola without sugar – at least without the classic table sugar. However: If you completely do without a sweetener, the typical crunch is lost. Because only the sugar makes the muesli stick together and become nice and crunchy. Instead of white sugar, you can use agave syrup or apple sweetener, for example. Coconut oil is also suitable for sugar-free granola.
