5 Steps to Safely Participate in the Petit Lumeçon: A Guide for Parents and Children

2023-06-11 07:09:36

The Petit Lumeçon allows a total of 3,300 children to participate in the rope, distributed in the different colored zones on the Grand-Place. Not one more! Because the priority of priorities naturally remains the safety of children. In order to experience a Petit Lumeçon in the best possible conditions, please carefully follow the 5 steps explained below:

1. Measure between 1m00 and 1m60

Children must wear a t-shirt (free of charge!) of a specific color depending on the size of the child (between 1m00 and 1m60). The child must be able to stand on their own. No reservation possible!

2. Place du Parc from 9:30 a.m.

T-shirts must be collected from the distribution counters set up at Place du Parc and accessible from 9:30 a.m., exclusively via the streets of Nimy then 4 fils Aymon.

Please note: the presence of the child is essential at this stage.given the need to measure it!

The height of the child is measured by the organization. A colored t-shirt is then given to him, with a name and numbered label for his identification (also with the parent’s mobile phone number). This color is also that of his rope area.

The parent then receives a counterfoil in the color of the t-shirt, showing the child’s identification number (to be memorized for security). Must keep!

After obtaining their t-shirt, the child, under the responsibility of the parent, is invited to join the Grand-Place by following the route “Rue du Parc – Rue du Onze Novembre – Rue Neuve – Grand-Place”.

Attention: As soon as they enter the “serpentine”, the parent receives, per child, a “pre-strain” on which is indicated the color of the required t-shirt. If there is no more “pre-strain” in a color, it means that all the t-shirts of this color have been distributed. At that moment, all waiting becomes useless. No more children are then admitted (contact the Police to get out of the system).

3. Rope starting at 12:00 p.m.

Access is via a ticket office specific to each color zone. A neutral zone creates a separation between parents and children. Adults not part of the organization are not allowed to enter and must remain behind this “circulation ring”.

In the zones, wearing a colored t-shirt is compulsory. Le Petit Combat takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

4. The HQ at Saint-Georges Hall

A HQ is set up in the Salle Saint-Georges next to the town hall. This is where parents are invited to pick up children evacuated during the Petit Combat. This HQ is in constant communication with the medical care station located in the Salle des Sacquiaux of the town hall.

Parents are invited to regularly check their mobile phone (a text message invites them to pick up their child(ren) at HQ).

5. At the end of the Little Fight (1:00 p.m.)

The exit from the zones following the Petit Combat is done via the ticket offices, child by child. Parents, don’t forget the identification card (except for the black t-shirts, the only zone for which access is free)! All the children still present are obliged to return to their zone and leave it via the counter.

Advice and prohibitions

  • Small bottles of water are distributed to the children present in the zones. But in case of strong heat, plan refreshments, caps and sunscreen.
  • For safety reasons, it is strongly advised to wear good (closed) shoes, to tie up long hair, to avoid earrings, necklaces (or any other accessory tied around the neck), piercings, etc
  • It is forbidden to install and climb on a stepladder or a ladder to attend the Petit Combat.
  • It is forbidden to smoke near children, particularly in the waiting corridors for the distribution of t-shirts, at the access counters to the rope areas, in the HQ, etc.

Important: Children remain under the full supervision and responsibility of their parents or any other person in charge of them. The City of Mons declines all responsibility in the event of an accident.
