We all suffer from stress! Still, feelings of anxiety don’t have to dominate your day. In partnership with Feel Good Contacts, Dutch psychologist Jan P. de Jonge has compiled five helpful tips to reduce stress in no time.
In the age of TikTok and Instagram, it’s all too easy to get stuck in an endless social media loop consuming news that can often be negative. Consuming a huge amount of information can be overwhelming and stressful.
“Limit news consumption to specific times of the day and preferably not when you should be relaxing,” he suggests.
Although most of us have to work and can’t choose our working hours, try to make time for yourself. Look at your schedule and prioritize what needs to be done and see if there’s time you can spare for a break.
He adds, “recalibrate your priorities and review the time you spend on each habitual activity.”
If you’re too shy to watch your screen time (like many of us), maybe it’s time to limit the time you spend on your phone or any other screen. Constantly staring at screens can be stressful and the blue light emitted by the screen ‘disrupts your sleep cycle’ which can lead to ‘lower quality sleep’.
Getting up early and getting some fresh air is good for the mind and can “help you sleep better”. Jan recommends setting daily tasks to accomplish and “making sure to complete the four or five most important tasks on this list.”
Exercise is a simple way to slow down your mind and reduce stress. A simple stretch can get your blood flowing and help you feel a little less stressed.
He recommends, “start with small steps – small goals that are very easy to achieve. Don’t worry regarding finishing, but be sure to start”.
