The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City warned this Thursday regarding the possible fall of ash from the Popocatépetl volcano in five municipalities of the country’s capital: Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac and Xochimilco.

The unit issued a series of recommendations for the inhabitants of those areas, such as covering the mouth and nose with a handkerchief or face mask; clean eyes and throat with pure water; use frame lenses to reduce eye irritation; as well as remain attentive to the information issued by the corresponding authorities.

According to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), in the last few hours Popocatépetl, which is at a phase 2 yellow volcanic alert traffic light, has recorded exhalations of water vapor, volcanic gases and ash, as well as 97 minutes low-amplitude tremor.
