Colon cancer is one of the third most common types of cancer in men and women, and smart food choices can help reduce your chances of developing it.

Some studies say that people who eat right, exercise, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce alcohol to a minimum are more than a third less likely to develop the disease.

In the context of this, we review the foods that contribute to the prevention of colon cancer, according to the website “webmd”.

1. Dairy:

Most studies agree that calcium-rich dairy products make you less likely to develop colon cancer, and vitamin D (which is added to milk) also protects against this type of cancer.

2. Whole grains:

They are full of nutrients and are good sources of magnesium and fiber, keep stools moving, and help control cancer-causing compounds in the colon.

3. Beans:

These legumes and others like soybeans, peas, and lentils, for example, are full of fiber, protein, vitamins B and E, and they also have compounds called flavonoids, which prevent the growth of tumors, as well as some antioxidants that contribute to protection against colon cancer.

4. Colorful Fruits and Vegetables:

These fruits and vegetables contain natural substances (phytochemicals) that prevent the growth of cancer cells or fight the inflammation that fuels cancer.

5. Fish:

Fats such as salmon are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that are beneficial for heart health and slow the growth of cancer cells, and some research has found that people who eat fish instead of red meat were less likely to develop colorectal cancer as well.
