Dr. Poonam Desai warned of five lifestyle habits that might put your health at great risk, including drinking coffee at a certain time of the day.

In a TikTok video, Desai urged people not to drink coffee following a certain time of the day.
Speaking to more than 22,000 of her followers, she explained why she never drinks coffee, or consumes caffeine, following 12 noon.

“Caffeine has a half-life of five to six hours, and it can linger in your system close to bedtime, preventing you from falling asleep,” she said. “So I try to avoid any caffeinated drinks in the followingnoon.”

Lack of sleep has been linked to a number of chronic health problems, including heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression.

Her advice is backed by research published in the journal Science Translational Medicine in 2015, which found that drinking the equivalent of two cups of espresso three hours before bed can set your body clock back by regarding an hour, causing the body to become unsteady.

Desai’s warning was part of a longer list of lifestyle habits to avoid or change for the sake of your health.

She said: “I am a doctor and these are the five things that I do not do, or no longer do, for the sake of my health. The first: drinking alcohol. No amount of alcohol is safe for our health.”

Excessive alcohol consumption is linked to the development of chronic diseases and other health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease and digestive problems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It has also been linked to cancer of the breast, mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon, and rectum.

Desai also warned once morest plastics, saying: “Plastic utensils, especially when heated, can become endocrine disruptors, so I no longer buy them.”

The National Institute of Environmental Health Services describes endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) as chemicals that may mimic, block, or interfere with the body’s hormones and are part of the endocrine system.

The US Environmental Protection Agency says these chemicals are linked to a variety of health problems, including increased risk of cancer and disturbances in immune and nervous system function.

Reinforcing Desai’s concerns regarding caffeine-induced sleep disturbance, she recommended once morest traveling late at night. “These trips can significantly disrupt your sleep for a night, so avoid them if possible,” she said.

She also urged people not to spend a day without five different plant foods. “These can include fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices,” she added.
