Final Fantasy XIV offers its players a large number of different mounts. Some of them are so stupid they’re great once more. Here are another 5 of them.
In the years since the release, more than 200 different mounts have appeared in Final Fantasy XIV, which you can either earn or buy in the MMORPG shop.
With such a large number of noble mounts, there are always some that are not quite as noble. Or on the contrary, really crazy. We’ll introduce you to another 5 of them in this list and explain how you can get them.
The first article on the craziest mounts in FFXIV can be found here:

Hippowagen
Chocobo carriages are a tried and trusted mode of transportation in Eorzea, and their popularity has naturally attracted imitators. Imitators, such as the hippo wagons, which aren’t pulled by cute yellow birds, but by hippos.
Even if the hippos aren’t exactly elegant when they’re running and flying looks pretty crazy, they’ve got what it takes. Despite its considerable weight, a hippopotamus can reach speeds of up to 50 km per hour in real life. Woe to the unlucky enough to get in the way of a hippo wagon.
How do I get the hippo wagon? The chariot is available from the NPC Ghanta in Thavnair X: 21 / Y: 28 for 18 Arkasodara Pana once you have reached the appropriate reputation level with the Arkasodara tribe.
You can easily earn the Pana through the Arkasodara tribe quests. There is one pana per quest.
Wivre
We humans are strange beings. We always want exactly what we can’t have or shouldn’t have. And still get it in the end. It was the same with the Wivre mount, for example.
The unruly critters not only look weird with their horns, but are also notorious for how vicious and unruly they are. It’s a well-known fact that taming a wivre is a long, annoying, and often deadly process. But following the Mamool Ja managed to tame some animals, there was no stopping the adventurers of Eorzea.
How do I get Wivre? The difficulty of taming a Wivre is reflected in the difficulty of getting one. You need a whopping 50,000 Bicolor Gems for the horn, which you get by completing FATEs in Shadowbringers and Endwalker areas. There is a maximum of 14 stones per FATE.
However, since you can only have a maximum of 1,000 stones at a time, you must regularly exchange them for trade certificates, which you can exchange at the gem merchants in endwalker areas. 500 such certificates are required for a Wivre.
Or you let someone else do the work and buy the item on the market board.
Papa Paisa
Actually, the story of Papa Paissa is quite tragic. He and his wife worked so hard that they ended up having 8 children. The only problem was that you have to feed all those hungry mouths somehow and unfortunately Gil doesn’t grow on trees.
In order to be able to secure his large family financially, Papa Paissa offered his services as a mount to well-heeled adventurers. So if you don’t mind that you have to clutch at the Paissa’s fur like madmen at breakneck heights to avoid falling into ruin.
How to get Papa Paissa? The mount is available in the FFXIV cash shop. It costs €16.80 there.
Monitor
FFXIV is notorious for allowing many things and creatures to fly that aren’t supposed to fly. The long list, which until now consisted of pigs, tyrannosaurs, giraffes, beds and other mounts, is now expanded with a screen.
The Monitor is a mysterious machine developed by the Omicrons, apparently used for analysis. Exactly how it is able to shrink and absorb its riders for transport, so that they are inside it, is a mystery. Use at your own risk.
How do I get the monitor? To get this mount, you first need 12 Chi Bolts, which you can turn in to NPC Nexvaaz in Radz-at-Han (X: 10.6 / Y: 10). You get the bolts when you successfully complete the FATE “From the memory of: Destruction”.
This appears in the Ultima Thule area (X: 34.4 / Y: 21.4) and is a rare FATE. So if you want the monitor, it’s a good idea to join a hunting contact group. The spawns of such FATEs are usually announced there, also across servers.
snowman
While most other mounts give you at least a glimpse of what they are, the Snowman is a mystery surrounded by many questions. Is it a living thing or a machine? How exactly can he fly? Why is it hollow inside? And most of all… how cold is it to ride that thing when it’s primed with Everfrost crystals?
However, the question of how you can see where you are riding can be easily answered. In order not to crash into the nearest monitor or hippo wagon while riding, you have to hold up the snowman’s head and hop around the area. Not a particularly elegant way of getting around, although the snowman himself is actually quite cute.
How do I get the snowman? The mount was originally one of the rewards for Starlight Festival 2020. You can now find it in the FFXIV cash shop for €8.40.
If you want to grab a snowman but are patient, you can wait for a discount campaign. At the latest at the start of the next Starlight Festival in December, the price of the old rewards in the shop will be reduced for a short time.
