An earthquake was perceived at 2:07 a.m. this Thursday in the regions of O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble and Biobío, being described as “medium intensity”. by the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred).

The first report from the National Seismological Center (CSN), dependent on the University of Chile, estimated the magnitude at 5,0. However, minutes later it was corrected to 5,1.

The epicenter was located at 28 kilometers southeast of Talca.

The hypocenter, meanwhile, was located at a depth of 94.5 kilometers.

Moments following the event, the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) indicated that the characteristics of the earthquake do not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami off the coast of Chile.
