The number of hospital patients with Covid-19 continues to fall: According to figures from the Ministry of Health and the Interior (as of 9.30 a.m.) there were 1410 people with corona disease in a hospital on Sunday, 51 fewer than on Saturday. 70 of them were cared for in intensive care units, three fewer than yesterday. Five people have died from or with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. In addition, 4751 new infections were registered.
The number of intensive care patients has fallen by three since Saturday, and last week the number in the intensive care units fell by 18. In total, there were 190 fewer Covid patients in the hospital on Sunday than a week ago.
The average of the past seven days was 13.3 Covid deaths per day, well above the value of the past 24 hours. A total of 93 deaths were registered last week, and the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 19,199 lives in Austria since it began. The Ages dashboard already showed 20,430 corona deaths on Sunday.
New infection below the seven-day average
In the past 24 hours, 4,751 new infections with the coronavirus were registered, with 42,135 registered PCR tests. The positive rate was 11.28 percent. The number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections, on the other hand, was below the average of 6142 cases per day in the past week. The seven-day incidence was 476.3 cases per 100,000 population. On Sunday there were 85,995 active cases in Austria, 615 more than the day before. Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 4,787,491 confirmed infections with the corona virus in Austria. 4,682,297 people have since recovered. Within the past 24 hours, 4131 patients have been reported as healthy once more.
Less than 60 percent valid vaccinations
On Saturday, 3478 vaccinations were carried out, most – 2628 – were booster vaccinations, i.e. those that go beyond the basic immunization of three stitches. 5,385,416 people and thus 59.7 percent of Austrians are validly vaccinated according to the recommendation of the National Vaccination Committee (NIG).
The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence on Sunday was Vienna with 756.6, followed by Lower Austria (549.7), Burgenland (461.2) and Carinthia (406.1). This was followed by Salzburg (387.4), Styria (363.5), Upper Austria (345.9), Tyrol (293.8) and Vorarlberg (230.7).
