After a citizen mobilization in front of the building, the 47 migrants installed in the abandoned premises of the Confederation of Christian Education Unions (CSC), a stone’s throw from the Porte de Hall, are finally relieved. This Monday, Mayor Jean Spinette confirms to them that the police will not come to evict them for the moment. “This is only a temporary situation,” emphasizes Binta Liebmann Diallo, coordinator of the non-profit organization Dispensaire Social, an organization that helps people in precarious situations.

On May 13, around twenty families with 12 children moved into the building due to lack of space elsewhere. Problem: the owner of the premises, CSC Enseignement, gave them until September 30 to find a solution and leave the premises. “They say it’s an agreement, but it’s a unilateral procedure. This simply results from the law of the strongest,” laments Binta Diallo. According to Roland Lahaye, secretary general of the CSC, the building is already promised for purchase and guaranteed without occupation.
