Thanks to a registration and control operation in the animal sales modules of the Retail Plaza of Medellín 46 abused animals were rescued that were in deplorable conditions and displayed for sale. For this reason, three of these establishments were also temporarily closed.

“In the procedure 14 fauna modules were inspected, of which three received temporary suspensions due to non-compliance. In total, 46 animals that were being sold in inadequate conditions were rescued, many of them mistreated and sick,” reported the city’s Secretariat of Security and Coexistence.

Among the rescued animals are 36 birds, two hamsters, three rabbits, two guinea pigs and a cockatoo, the latter considered wildlife.

They found two dead animals

In the midst of the inspections, which also included the participation of the Environmental Police, a dead duck and a rabbit were found, which would demonstrate that some of the people who are dedicated to this economic activity would not be complying with the regulations for the sale of these animals and their respective protection and care.

The rescued animals were transferred to specialized centers, where they will receive adequate care and their situation will be evaluated.
