The Moroccan Cultural Center Dar Al-Maghrib was present at the 45th edition of the Montreal Book Fair through a rich program that reflects the various facets of Moroccan literature from here and elsewhere.
This year, a host of authors and guest writers from Morocco and others residing in Canada are taking part in this book festival, which took place from November 23 to 27, at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal.
Visitors to the Moroccan Cultural Center kiosk at the Montreal Book Fair are invited to a series of discussion sessions and signings of the latest works by writers Soumaya Naamane Guessous “We women, you men! », Chakib Guessous « Early marriage. From antiquity to the present day, Moroccan anthropology and universal issues”, Bob Oré Abitbol “The taste of jams”, Mustapha Fahmi “The lesson of Rosalinde” and Kamal Benkirane “Mirrors always lie”.
Also present during this cultural event were the authors Driss Chebla “Your divine wine lips”, Mostafa Benfares “Authentic culture and globalization”, Paul Serge Kakon “All the Blues of the Sea”, M’hammed Mellouki “The way of the dog” and Sylvia Ayelet Assouline with her first novel “…. And the jasmine blooms once more” without forgetting Zineb Abderrazik and Rachid Charaibi co-founders of the editions, the gallery and the Marsam art center, as well as Hicham Alami Ouali, Director of Editions Bouregreg..
The 45th Montreal Book Fair was an opportunity for the public to discuss with sociologist Fayrouz Fawzi, writer Majid Blal who presented his works “L’igloo des errances identitaires”, “Cries des sans voix ou lamente du deux-tiers monde” and “Une Femme pour Pays” and the authors El Hafed Ezzabour and Ahmed Boumeftah during the signing sessions of their respective books “بوح كندي ازرق” and “قريب منك”.
The young public also had the opportunity to meet the writer Marie Denise Douyon for discussions on the books and signings of her children’s books “Le pélican de Tétouan” and “Tahir un très beau paon d’Agadir”.
On this occasion, Mrs. Naâmane Guessous reviewed the great advances made by Morocco in terms of legislation to promote the conditions of Moroccan women, under the enlightened leadership of SM. King Mohammed VI.
The sociologist thus recalled the progress made by the status of women in recent years, in particular with the reform of the Family Code in 2004 and the fundamental changes made to the Nationality Code.
After recalling that the 2011 Constitution established the principle of equality between men and women in terms of rights and freedoms and parity, the academic considered that despite this progress, there are still steps to be taken to make further advance the status of women in Morocco.
