45,000 years ago, “Homo sapiens” arrived in China

Our ancestors were already present in northern China 5000 years earlier than we thought. A discovery which calls into question the chronology of the colonization of the country by human populations.

It is a site that contains incredible treasures. Many pieces which probably would allow us to understand the history of our ancestors and their conquest of the planet. Located in northern China, the Shiyu site was unfortunately discovered during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, « not the best time for archeology », Soberly judges Francesco d’Errico, archaeologist at the University of Bordeaux, research director at the CNRS and co-signatory of this work. New excavations have taken place there recently. They made it possible to obtain dates which confirm that this is the first evidence of the presence of Homo sapiens in China 45,000 years ago. ans, 5000 years earlier than we thought.
