This Friday morning, a chase with the police turned tragic on the E313 towards Ghent and Breda. The 43-year-old motorist was between life and death when he was taken to hospital. His alcohol test turned out to be positive, indicate our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad.
It was around 6 a.m. that a police patrol which was near work on the E313 was arrested by the speed of a motorist. “Because of the works, a speed limit of 50 km/h applies. The driver overtook the police at a speed of 150 km/h. It’s three times more. The patrol immediately gave chase, ”explains Kim Bastiaens, police spokesperson, to our colleagues.
But the chase ended tragically when the driver tried to take an exit, still at very high speed. The car veered off the road and flew over the railings. She was then catapulted onto the roadway by shrubs, before rolling over several times and coming to rest on the exit ramp.
The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.
