The Language Development and Fostering Agency (Language Agency) provides government assistance in the Language and Literature Sector for 2024 Period II.
Head of the Center for Language and Literature Development and Protection, Imam Budi Utomo, said that providing assistance to literary communities is expected to improve the quality of Indonesian literary works so that they can compete on the international stage.
“After going through the file verification and judging stages, only 43 literary communities and 51 writers passed the jury’s assessment in this second stage. The file verification and judging were indeed very strict so that the communities and writers present in Jakarta are selected communities and writers,” he said during the Briefing of Prospective Recipients of Government Assistance (Banpem) in the Language and Literature Sector 2024 Period II, Wednesday (28/8).
The award-winning writers, he said, are expected to be able to collect creative works, both poetry and prose, which will be anthologized as works.
This briefing activity was attended by 43 literary communities (each community was represented by a chairman and treasurer) and 51 writers who had passed the selection as candidates for government assistance for the second period in 2024.
The selection process is carried out very strictly, considering various aspects, including the participants’ real contributions to the world of literature, the potential for developing the proposed program, and the expected impact of implementing the program.
The participants came from various regions in Indonesia, representing the diversity of cultures and languages in the archipelago. Their presence in this activity shows the strong commitment of writers and literary communities in preserving and developing Indonesian literature.
