A single ticket sold in the south of California he matched all six numbers in the Mega Millions lottery and was the lucky winner of the $426 million jackpot.
The numbers drawn Friday night were 3, 16, 25, 44 and 55. The Mega ball was 13, the California State Lottery reported.
The winning ticket was sold at a Chevron gas station in the Woodland Hills section of The Angels
The winner has not yet been announced. Lottery officials said the ticket holder has one year to apply. You still have the option of accepting the one-time payment of approximately $293 million (before federal taxes) or the entire amount in graduated payments over 29 years.
“It’s always exciting when a winning ticket comes out with such a big jackpot in California,” said Alva V. Johnson, director of the California State Lottery. “What makes it particularly significant is that California public schools are also big winners. From the beginning, raising money for education has been the reason the lottery exists and that makes us very proud.”
A cumulative $421 million was promoted, but sales skyrocketed, bringing the total to $426 million.
