At least 410 remains of civilians have been found in the town of Bucha, near the Ukrainian capital kyiv, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said on Sunday.

“Currently, 410 bodies of slaughtered civilians have been recovered on the territory of the Kyiv region,” Iryna Venediktova posted on Facebook, according to the country’s state news agency Ukrinform.

“Prosecutors and other experts have already examined 140 of them,” Venediktova said, adding that an investigation was underway.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry disputed that its troops killed civilians as they withdrew from towns near kyiv.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on international organizations to send their experts to the country as soon as possible to collect evidence of war crimes committed by Russian troops.

On Saturday, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said bodies of people with their hands tied and shot by Russian troops “lie in the streets” of Bucha.

The Russian war once morest Ukraine, which began on February 24, has sparked international outrage. The European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, in particular, have imposed heavy financial sanctions on Moscow.

According to UN estimates, at least 1,417 civilians have been killed in Ukraine and 2,038 others have been injured, but the true toll might be much higher.

More than 4.1 million Ukrainians have also fled to other countries, and millions more have faced internal displacement, according to the UN refugee agency.
