Advice to the Social Affairs, Health and Sport business group
Vienna (OTS / RK) – As in previous years, the executive city councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) recognized the achievements of the employees in overcoming the Covid pandemic. This shaped the year 2022, especially in the first half of the year. Other projects were delayed by the health crisis. After the Covid pandemic had subsided, the next crisis arose with the Ukraine war and inflation, which hardly made it possible for the employees to “catch a breath”. Hacker mentioned the MA 15 health authority, which might come up with an “impressive” record of the pandemic: around 40 million tests carried out, more than 1 million registered cases of infection or almost 900,000 Covid vaccinations carried out. In addition, MA 15 also pushed ahead with projects such as digitization. The health number 1450 handled more than 1.6 million calls in 2022. As a digitization project in the health sector, Hacker mentioned the so-called “tele-rescue” in the houses for life, which would avoid hospital stays and patient transport. This is necessary because the number of rescue operations is constantly increasing due to population growth. So-called “low-priority missions” would increase particularly sharply, and the number of rescue trips would have to be reduced. Hacker described the Vienna Health Association (Wigev) as a “bulwark in the fight once morest the health crisis”. Hacker substantiated this with numbers: 228,000 inpatient admissions, 4.7 million outpatient visits and 2 million days of care are an “impressive testimony”. In some areas, such as gynecological care in the private sector, with pediatricians or in general medicine, there is an undersupply in the cash register area. Hacker called for a reform of the health system, which must be financed through financial equalization. “Despite all this”, Wigev started the “largest construction program in its history” in 2022, and by 2040 all Viennese clinics would be modernized – in full operation. The largest neurological department was opened in the Hietzing Clinic this week.
Hacker mentioned training as a further focus in the health and social sector. The training places in Wigev would be further expanded in nursing and for doctors. Hacker announced that by 2024, more than 4,000 nursing training places would be available with the Vienna Social Fund and FH Campus. He continued with the report on the Vienna Social Fund (FSW). In 2022, he looked following more than 142,000 customers and worked on the strategy of a “dementia-friendly city. In social policy, the “fight once morest inflation was the focus”. Solidarity is the top priority in Vienna. A total of 530 million euros in extraordinary support for energy and housing was distributed. Finally, Hacker devoted himself to the field of sports. Here, too, there is an investment program with a total of 31 projects that has been approved by all parliamentary groups. The new sports arena at the stadium is under construction and will open in 2025. Three out of six circular halls have also already been completed. All construction measures would “take climate protection seriously” – this also applies to the measures in the hospital area. Not only would the facilities for competitive sports be renewed, facilities for children, young people and recreational athletes such as the Praterstern sports and fun hall would also be built.
After City Councilor Hacker’s speech, the session was adjourned at 10:04 p.m. The 40th session of the Vienna City Council will continue on Wednesday, June 28 at 9 a.m. (cont.) gaa
