The anniversary break goes into the final: Today’s Sunday is the third and last day of the 40th Danube Island Festival. In the followingnoon the area was already lively. Because just in time for the finale, wonderful summer weather had appeared. It was not until the early evening that the stages were really busy, with many of today’s acts having traveled from neighboring Germany. Many of them already have island experience.

The headliners on the large festival stage, curated today by Ö3, include DJ Felix Jaehn, the band Silbermond, also from Germany, and finally the singer Michael Patrick Kelly. The artist with US-Irish roots – at that time still called “Paddy” – has already repeatedly guested there with family members. These concerts are now among the most legendary island festival moments. The Kelly Family was a guest at the festival three times in the 1990s. The masses were mobilized in 1995 in particular, and the gig attracted around 200,000 visitors.

The hit stage is also nostalgic. With the Spider Murphy Gang, a formation stops there that was already producing hits at a time when the Kellys were still playing in pedestrian zones. And even on the rock stage, a journey through time is offered. This is the stage that was once called the “Rockhausbühne” and was later used by FM4 for many years. As one of the last bands on the “old” Rockhausbühne, the crossover combo H-Blockx – also coming from Germany – was in action there. Tonight she is returning there.

Local guests can also be experienced, for example as part of a cabaret and comedy focus in the ORF III culture tent. Among others, Gerald Fleischacker and Gernot Kulis are expected. Speaking of home: The biggest crowd so far at the anniversary party came unsurprisingly on Friday, when the successful Austro rapper RAF Camora played on the main stage programmed by FM4 that day.

At the start on Friday, the island crowd had to celebrate partly in the rain. Yesterday’s Saturday was also comparatively cool. Today, however, the sun was shining, only a few clouds provided shade for a short time. The island was already well attended in the followingnoon. Some particularly enthusiastic DIF fans were already camped out in front of the main stage, despite the high summer temperatures, in order to be able to stand in the front rows when the program started in the early evening.

There is also an extensive leisure, sports and children’s program on the island. Visitors can also find out more regarding various topics. Advice is offered on the subject of housing, for example. Even job hunting can be done there. In so-called recruiting areas, employers inform potential employees regarding employment opportunities. The ÖBB, the Wien Holding, the FSW and the post office are also there.

From 5 p.m., two young artists, Felicia Lu and Leony, were present on the Ö3 stage. “It’s Sunday and the weather is great,” said the former, enthusiastic regarding the atmosphere. She and her band immediately created a good atmosphere, although some visitors had apparently come to their gig – as documented by the posters they had brought with them. If you missed the concert: Felicia Lu will be a guest at the Flex in September.

Also for Leony quite a few – especially very young – people traveled to the island. Many of them had an excellent view of the stage as they were allowed to sit on the shoulders of their adult companions. The former casting show participant and juror Lenoy released her debut single (“Surrender”) in 2017. Her album “Somewhere In Between” was released this year.

The single of the same name was performed right at the beginning of today. Unsurprisingly, many in the audience were already sure of the lyrics. At short notice, the fans also sang a song that was not on the set list – namely “Happy Birthday”. Leony, who has her birthday today, thanked her for the serenade.
