The National Committee of the Radical Civic Union (UCR) will celebrate in squares across the country the 40th anniversary of the electoral victory that made Raúl Alfonsín president following seven years of military dictatorship.

In the city of Buenos Aires, the event will take place this Monday at 6 p.m. in the Vatican State Plaza, located at the intersection of Cerrito and Viamonte streets, next to the Teatro Colón, in downtown Buenos Aires.

The president of the UCR, Gerardo Morales, and Senator Martín Lousteau will participate in the event, as well as the head of the UCR Capital Committee, Mariela Coletta, and former deputy Marcelo Stubrin.

In its call, the National Committee of radicalism urged that the events not only celebrate that triumph “of all Argentines”, but also represent “an opportunity to think regarding the Argentina that is coming.”

Alfonsín won with more than 52% of the votes, on October 30, 1983, when he defeated the candidate of the Justicialista Party (PJ), Ítalo Luder.

In his call, The National Committee of Radicalism urged that the events not only celebrate that triumph “of all Argentines”, but also represent “an opportunity to think regarding the Argentina that is to come.”.

The UCR expressed that Alfonsín’s legacy is “an exercise in memory and a reason for celebration to be transmitted from generation to generation” because his Government allowed the recovery of freedom and justice.

Since last October 3, the National Committee of the UCR launched a dissemination campaign throughout the country that seeks to highlight the most emotional and outstanding aspects of Alfonsín’s management, which lasted between 1983 and 1989.

This call by the UCR takes place in days when the party defines its electoral strategy with a view to the runoff that on November 19 will face the candidate of Unión por la Patria (UxP) and Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, and the candidate of La Libertad Avanza (LLA), Javier Milei.

Last week, the main national authorities of radicalism rejected the political support given to Milei by former president Mauricio Macri and Patricia Bullrich, who was the presidential candidate of Together for Change (JxC), the coalition made up of the UCR.
