40 years later, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” will be released in a collector’s edition

The album released in 1982 remains the best-selling in history.

Forty years following its release on November 30, 1982, the album Thriller by Michael Jackson will be released in the coming months. Several collector’s editions of the disc will be available from November 18, Sony Music announced on Monday. A double-CD will notably be on sale, with the original album and an additional disc composed of unreleased tracks recorded by the star at the time. The album had already been entitled to a reissue for its 25th anniversary, in 2008.

Already available for pre-order, this new double album will be entitled to limited editions in several American chain stores. “In addition, Mobile Fidelity will make available both a Hybrid SACD and an LP UltraDisc One-Step 180g 33RPM set, pressed at RTI (record Technology, Inc.) and strictly limited to 40,000 numbered copies, both mastered from the original analog master tapes” specifies the specialized site mjfrance.

Over 100 million copies sold

From 1982, the album became cult and exploded all records with 7 singles ranked in the American Top 10, 8 Grammy Awards… Certified 34 times platinum in the United States, Thriller remains the best-selling record in music history with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.

Fans are now hoping for more releases around this anniversary. Sunday evening, during the Billboard Music Awards, the singer Maxwell took the title on stage The Lady In My Life to celebrate the album’s fortieth anniversary.

Over the years, many unreleased tracks from the recording sessions of Thriller ended up leaking on the internet without being officially released.
