The Radical Civic Union (UCR) celebrated this Monday the 40 years of the election that consecrated Raul Alfonsin as president of the return of democracy with a tribute in the State Square of the Vatican, in downtown Buenos Aires, led by Gerardo Morales and Martín Lousteau.
“No one is running away from us. Nobody sends us now. Only the Radical Civic Union rules, the destiny of the Radical Civic Union,” emphasized Morales, president of the radical party, at the closing of the event.
The head of the party pointed out: “We are currently facing a challenge that has to do with two options that we do not share, two options that harm the Argentine Republic. We have said throughout the Argentine Republic, of our country , when I had to accompany Horacio Rodríguez Larreta as one of the options to govern our country, we are facing the government that has destroyed the expectations of the Argentine people, with unstoppable inflation and silent unions and social organizations looking the other way” .
The governor of Jujuy referred to Together for Change and noted that “the decision of a couple of leaders is breaking and They want to take another worse option into space, such as Javier Milei.“.
Alfonsín, today more necessary than ever
“Both Sergio Massa and Javier Milei are not the best alternative for the Argentine Republic and they want to take us down a path that we are not going to travel, we are not going to travel the path of fundamentalism, the path of madness, the path of leaping into the void,” Morales said.
In his opinion, “fundamentalisms have disguised themselves in many things and now they are libertarian.”
“We need a party that renews itself. And we have four years to work tirelessly, tirelessly from the role of opposition, revitalizing our teams, revitalizing our youth with men who are the expression of renewal. Whoever governs will govern and the Radical Civic Union will be there controlling, setting the course and rebuilding this alternative for four years. Four years go by quickly. I regret that the country is in this dilemma that is going to waste our time. That is why we have to work with the greatest possible cohesion, stronger than ever, to be the alternative that governs the Argentine Republic in 2027,” he emphasized.
Martín Lousteau: “We don’t want a chainsaw or for the State to be filled with militants”
For his part, Lousteau, the party’s vice president, stated: “We reject the two dangers that we already knew in Argentina, neither the hegemonic temptation nor the authoritarian drift“.
“These are difficult days, we have a horrible election but none of the challenges we have are more difficult than those Alfonsín had,” said the senator.
And he added: “We don’t like either candidate because we want a State that gives society what it needs, we don’t want a chainsaw or a state filled with militants.”
Sergio Massa emulated Raúl Alfonsín and wants to win the radical vote
The UCR act for the 40 years of the election that consecrated Raúl Alfonsín as president of the return of democracy
“40 years of Democracy. The legacy of Raúl Alfonsín”, was the slogan of the call that was also replicated in squares throughout the country to honor the first president following the return of democracy.
The event began around 7 p.m. with images of Alfonsín, which was followed by the first speech by radical leader Marcelo Stubrin, who referred to the runoff scenario and said that the party “will be opposed to anyone who wins” on November 19.
Then, the president of the Buenos Aires UCR, Mariela Coletta, questioned Javier Milei for constantly attacking the party.
“We are going to be brave and they are not going to force us to choose between two options that do not represent us,” he added.
