“Devastated”, said the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, regarding the brutal murder of 28-year-old Kyriaki by her 39-year-old ex-partner outside the AT of Aghii Anargyro, on Monday night (1.4.24).
Speaking on the Star’s main news bulletin on Friday night (5.4.24) he pledged that the result of the Administrative Inquiry into the femicide in Agioi Anargyrou will be released very soon.
“There are deadlines in the rule of law and we will respect them”, stressed Mr. Chrysochoidis, pointing out that at the end of next week we will have conclusions.
At the same time, the Minister of Citizen Protection admitted that the 2021 protocol for the management of such situations was not implemented, pointing out that the main issue is the safety of the citizen who is at risk of becoming a victim of an attack, but also that “when you have a death in an AT it does not seem things went well.”
However, he clarified that what exactly happened “we will know when the investigation is over”.
“There are problems with the police who have been left behind in terms of developments,” he said.
They “sweep” cases of violence once morest women
The figures quoted by Mr. Chrysochoidis regarding violence between minors and violence once morest women are shocking.
“300 children have been arrested in the last three months for assaulting other minors. Let’s look in the mirror” emphasized the Minister, who said that the goal is to create a safe house in every region for women at risk. “We are already moving forward, next week there will be a safe house in every area for those women at risk that only the police will know regarding and they will be able to stay for 2-3 days”.
Regarding the purpose of A.T. and “the 8 years in prison on his back”, he did not want to give clarifications. “We are entering the case study… let’s not draw conclusions, let’s first have the official conclusions from the investigation…” he replied to M. Zacharea
Forty complaints of women a day
Regarding what he said in today’s teleconference with 2,500 police officers, Mr. Chrysochoidis said that “the crucial issue is the safety of the victim, the others (the criminal cases) have been resolved.”
As the minister said, 40 women a day report a partner or husband for violent behavior.
Regarding the announcements of opposition parties calling on him to resign, Mr. Chrysochoidis commented:
“The opposition is doing its job, but it must do it responsibly.” As he added with a tip to the SYRIZA government, he found only one DP from 2016 by Mrs. Gerovasilis for domestic violence. “They are parties of the Left, they should deal a little with social issues” he concluded.
