Two rescue operations at sea took place on Sunday and Monday in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais.
40 migrants were rescued at sea during two operations off the Strait of Pas-de-Calais, says the maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea in a press release this Monday.
Monday morning, 38 castaways were discovered in a boat in difficulty. The Customs Coast Guard patrol boat Kermorvan is mobilized by the Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue Griz-Nez to rescue them.
The migrants were dropped off at the port of Calais to be taken care of by the Pas-de-Calais firefighters and the border police.
The evening before, two castaways were recovered in similar conditions by the customs patrol boat in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais. Earlier in the day, 63 people had been recovered.
A week earlier, 41 migrants had already been rescued at sea by the French Navy. The maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea recalls, in his press release, the many “risks incurred” by people who try to cross the Channel due to difficult weather conditions and very heavy maritime traffic.
