4 natural ways to treat itchy body at home, most notably apple cider vinegar

Some people suffer from persistent itching in the skin, and it may appear in one or separate areas of the body, which leads them to resort to natural ways to treat body itching at home.

Causes of body itching

Body itching occurs due to several reasons, the most common of which are the following diseases:

Treating itchy skin the natural way

1- peppermint oil

Applying peppermint oil to the skin, which contains menthol, contributes to giving the necessary hydration and calming itching. The results of a study published by “NCBI” in 2012 showed that peppermint oil when applied to the hands for twice a day within two weeks, relieved the itching of the skin. Dilute it with another carrier oil.

2- apple cider vinegar

Because it contains acetic acid, apple cider vinegar may help soothe an itchy scalp, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF). Dry it before rinsing it gently with lukewarm water, and doctors do not recommend applying it to cracks.

3- Sodium Bicarbonate

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate has anti-fungal properties. You should put a quarter cup of baking soda with a little water to make a paste, and then apply it to the itchy areas.

4- Oatmeal

Putting oatmeal with a warm bath to soothe itching, especially pimples or dermatitis, and one of the stages of eczema, chickenpox, hives, poison ivy, or sunburn.

Natural methods alone are not enough, so you must resort to a doctor and dispense the necessary medications.

When body itching calls for recourse to the doctor?

If the following symptoms appear, a doctor should be consulted:

The itching never subsides.

Itching persists for more than two weeks.

Ways to prevent itching of the body

The following methods help prevent itchy skin:

Take a shower with lukewarm water, not hot, for a period of no more than 10 minutes only.

Use perfume-free lotions, soaps and detergents, because they do not contain chemicals that may cause skin irritation.

Wear loose cotton clothes and stay away from wool, because it causes severe itching.

Avoid exposure to varying temperatures, from hot and cold, because this exposes the body to dehydration, which increases the risk of developing eczema.

Reducing the causes of stress, because the psychological state can increase the symptoms of itching.
