The color of the teeth changes as a result of not paying attention to their cleanliness or excessive consumption of caffeine and tobacco, but in some cases the change in the color of the teeth may be a sign of a health problem that the person suffers from.
In the following report, “Consulto” reviews the most prominent health problems that may affect the color of the teeth, according to the “Health line”.
Teeth consist of hydroxyapatite or crystalline calcium phosphate, and calcium plays a very important role inside the teeth, if it protects the sensitive nerves inside, and the body’s loss of calcium may cause many damages to the teeth, such as:
Tooth fragility.
Teeth fracture.
Dental cavities.
Gum infections.
Health problems that affect the color of the teeth
1- Tooth discoloration
Calcium deficiency affects the color of the teeth indirectly, because calcium deficiency causes weakness and cracking of tooth enamel, which leads to tooth thinning and thus the appearance of the color of the dentin layer in the teeth, so the teeth appear yellow.
2- anorexia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa is a type of eating disorder, in which the sufferer suffers from an obsession with obtaining the ideal body weight and getting rid of excess weight, which causes the patient to vomit following eating, and it is one of the well-known psychological disorders.
When a person vomits food continuously, this may cause stomach acid to rise back into the mouth, and its accumulation in the mouth may cause yellowing of the teeth.
3- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
Esophageal reflux disease is a health problem that occurs as a result of stomach acids regurgitating back through the esophagus. Reflux causes many symptoms, including yellowing of the teeth due to the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth, which affects oral and dental health in general.
4- Poor oral and dental health
The yellow color of the teeth may reveal poor oral and dental health, even with interest in brushing the teeth, and this may result from weak immunity in the body, which causes frequent infection of the gums or teeth, and this may expose to many risks such as bleeding gums, toothache, weak teeth, change in the color of the teeth and the emission of an unpleasant odor from mouth.

How do we maintain the color of the teeth?
In addition to poor dental hygiene and previous diseases, the yellowish color of the teeth may be related to genes, as genetics plays a role in the brightness and thickness of enamel, which may have a significant impact on the apparent color of the teeth, but in general, the color of the teeth can be preserved by doing the following:
Brush your teeth in the morning and evening and following every meal.
Attention to the use of dental floss next to the brush to obtain the required hygiene, which reduces the chances of accumulation of bacteria that affect the color of the teeth.
Pay attention to healthy eating that contains fruits and vegetables.
Avoid caffeine, tobacco, and all foods and drinks that affect the health and color of your teeth.
