The NHS has warned regarding a symptom that might be an early indicator of a common infectious disease.
The agency explained that a circular or oval rash around a tick bite may be an early sign of Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by infected ticks, according to the British newspaper, Express.
Early diagnosis is critical for successful treatment, so if you notice this symptom, consult a doctor immediately.
The rash might appear with a central area that’s darker or lighter and can expand over time. It’s usually not hot or itchy. It might be flat or raised. The rash may appear pink, red, or purple on white skin. On brown and black skin, the rash might be difficult to spot and may look similar to a bruise.
The rash can persist for up to three months following an infected tick bite, and typically appears within one to four weeks.
What are other symptoms of Lyme disease?
Some individuals may experience flu-like symptoms a few days or weeks following being bitten by an infected tick. These symptoms might include:
fever or chills
headache
Muscle and joint pain
fatigue and loss of energy
Some people with Lyme disease develop more severe symptoms months or years later. These more severe symptoms might include:
joint pain and swelling
Nerve problems such as:
pain or numbness
Heart problems
problems with memory or concentration
Sometimes this disease can be misdiagnosed with conditions that have similar or overlapping symptoms, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis.
How to safely remove ticks?
Use fine tweezers or a tick removal tool, which you can purchase from some pharmacies, veterinarians, and pet stores.
-Grab the tick as close to the skin as possible.
-Slowly pull it upward, making sure not to squeeze or crush the tick, and dispose of it following removal.
-Clean the bite site with an antiseptic or soap and water.
