Four people, including a gunman, were killed Sunday evening in a shopping center in the US state of Indiana when a man fired a rifle in a dining hall, before he was killed by a civilian carrying a weapon, police said.
Greenwood Police Chief Jim Eason said at a news conference that the man entered the Greenwood Park Mall with a rifle and several magazines and began shooting in the dining hall.
Eason added that a 22-year-old armed civilian described him as a “real hero”, who killed the attacker, and that the death toll was four dead and two wounded, and they are in stable condition.
Authorities in the mall are looking for any other victims, but believe the shooting was contained in the dining hall.
Eason said police seized a suspicious backpack that was in a restroom near the dining hall.
