Southern California Braces for Wave of Light Rain
A subtle shift in weather patterns is set to bring a touch of winter back to Southern California this week, as meteorologists predict scattered showers and light rain across the region. The change is attributed to the tail end of a powerful system currently pummeling Northern California.
Rain Expected to Begin Thursday
Light rain showers are anticipated to grace the Southland starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend. As the storm system gradually approaches from the north, residents can expect cloud cover and a 30 percent chance of rain on Thursday.
Forecasters also anticipate light gusts ranging from five to 10 miles per hour until Friday.
Cooler Temperatures Arrive
As the Santa Ana winds subside, a refreshing coolness will settle over the region. On Friday, the National Weather Service predicts a high of 62 degrees in downtown Los Angeles, 64 degrees in Laguna Beach, and 63 degrees in both Temecula and San Diego.
Brief Sunny Interlude Before More Rain
While skies are expected to momentarily clear on Friday, the sunshine won’t linger for long. Cloud cover will return, followed by light to moderate showers on Saturday across the Southland.
Light Rainfall Anticipated
Rainfall totals are expected to remain relatively modest, with a possible quarter inch for Ventura and Los Angeles counties. However, NWS officials predict that “though under a tenth of an inch is the most likely scenario.”
