According to the data published by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the General Producer Price Index in Industry (total domestic and foreign market) showed a decrease of 4.3% in February 2024 compared to the corresponding month of 2023.
Accordingly, the general producer price index in the industry in 2023 had increased by 4.7% compared to 2022.
Drop in energy prices
According to ELSTATthis reduction in the production costs of domestic industries came from the continued drop in energy prices and is due to the following changes in the indices of the individual markets:
a. In the decrease in the domestic market producer price index by 6.3% (the food industry index increased by 1%), and
b. In the increase in the foreign market producer price index by 2.1% (the food industry index increased by 19%).
At the same time, according to iefimerida, the general index showed a decrease of 0.4% in February 2024 compared to the index of January 2024, once morest a decrease of 3.3% that occurred during the corresponding comparison of indices in 2023.
