3D printing is being tested on the stainless steel “Apple Watch Series 9”

New information indicates that the Apple would have started testing the technology of 3D printing in the manufacture of some models of the “Apple Watch Series 9”, as revealed today by Mark Gurmanjournalist at Bloomberg.

According to him, Apple plans to employ a 3D printing technique known as “binder jetting”, which involves creating three-dimensional objects layer by layer using a powdered material. This technique would have been under development for at least three years.

If the change happens, several advantages may come with it. One would be to reduce the amount of material used in the production process, replacing the need for large metal plates used in conventional manufacturing.

NOVO: Apple is considering a major shift in the way it makes its products, exploring 3D printing on device chassis. The company is testing this process — with big advantages in terms of production speed and sustainability — with the upcoming “Apple Watch Series 9” in stainless steel.

This transition, however, is not entirely unexpected. Last month, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had pointed out the company’s interest in adopting 3D printing technology, especially in the next generation of Apple Watch Ultra — but, according to Gurman, such a change is not planned to occur before 2024 for this model.

Therefore, Gurman’s most recent information suggests that the company’s initial focus will be on the structure of some models of the “Apple Watch Series 9”. According to him, the tests have been applied only to models of stainless steel.

The change, of course, might be in line with Apple’s commitment to sustainability, using the reduction of waste and carbon emissions as a precedent to, who knows in the future, adopt the technology in more devices.

As Apple prepares to reveal the “iPhones 15”, the “Apple Watch Series 9” and a possible new generation of the Apple Watch Ultra, we are more excited to meet them. Apple, in turn, confirmed that the presentation event will take place on 9/12 and we, as always, will bring you all the details!
