39 people are hospitalized for monkeypox in Colombia

Monkeypox has mainly affected men between the ages of 30 and 39 in ColombiaHowever, for now only 39 patients are hospitalized for complications of the virus, according to data from the National Institute of Health.

This virus, which has a low contagion and mortality rate, has been identified in 938 people in ColombiaOf these, only four cases correspond to women, with a cutoff date of September 5.

As confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the peak of cases in the country was recorded in the last seven days, which positioned Colombia among the 10 most affected countries worldwide, following the United States, Spain, Brazil, France, Germany, United Kingdom , Peru, Canada and the Netherlands

In the national territory, the most affected age group is those people between 30 and 39 years old, in which 412 cases have been identified, followed by the age group of 20 to 29 years old (352 cases) and 40 to 29 years old. 49 years (129 cases).

The main source of infection of cases in the country is from an unknown source, in 59.4% of cases, followed by cases related to an unknown source (21.4%) and under study (9.9%) .

The other percentage of cases correspond to imported cases (4.3%) and cases related to importation (5.0%).

According to the World Health Organization, 25 countries around the world reported an increase in the weekly number of cases, with the largest increase reported in Colombia.

The areas of the country in which most cases are reported are in Bogotá (697 cases), Antioch (125), Cali (30) and Cundinamarca (21).

Keep in mind that the main symptoms caused by monkeypox are headache, muscle pain, exhaustion, fever and skin lesions that are usually reflected 1 to 3 days following the onset of fever. .
