The United Arab Emirates University launched the eighth cycle of the President’s Award for Innovation for the academic year 2022/2023 for faculty, staff and students, in order to stimulate and enhance the innovation environment at the university.
The official website of the competition witnessed a great turnout since July 7, 2022, with a total of 370 participation, in which the percentage of students reached 52%, while the percentage of faculty members reached 28%, and the participation of university employees doubled to 20% from the previous session.
Dr. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Deputy for Scientific Research at the university, explained that the UAE University attaches great importance to innovation as a fundamental pillar in the development of institutional work and contribute through the quality of creative ideas and innovations in providing practical solutions to real challenges, and thus work on speedy achievement and high efficiency. Innovation is also an essential part of the UAEU work system, as the university seeks to provide the enabling and the right environment that helps faculty, staff and students to be creative and innovative.
Dr. Ahmed Murad confirmed that the award received 146 innovative proposals, which is equivalent to more than 50% compared to the previous cycle, in nine axes, namely renewable energy, health, education, transportation, technology, space and water sources, in addition to administrative and social innovation. The percentage of innovative proposals related to the renewable energy axis reached 20%, while the percentage of proposals related to health is estimated at 20%. The percentage of participations related to the sectors of education, transportation, technology, space, water resources, administrative innovation and social innovation increased from 4 to 10% compared to last year for each sector.
He pointed out that the Supreme President’s Award for Innovation is an incentive award that stimulates the innovation environment at the university, and contributes to building students’ skills and qualifying them for the requirements of the labor market.
The final phase of the award has begun, which is the submission of complete entries to be presented to the award jury in December 2022.
