The woman admitted to killing her two children. This was announced by police spokesman Johann Baumschlager on Monday evening. The 36-year-old may have killed the girls by submerging in the water. A psychological exceptional situation of the Lower Austrian is suspected to be the trigger.
The victims are a seven-year-old girl and her seven-month-old sister. Shortly before 9.30 a.m., the 36-year-old’s husband called the emergency number on Monday. He stated that his wife called him and told him that she had killed the two children and was now going to commit suicide. The woman suffered injuries when she hit a tree.

As Baumschlager confirmed in the evening, according to the first investigation results, the two girls were killed by submerging in the water and then carried into the house. There the lifeless children were found by the police. Two ambulance helicopters were requested, but attempts at resuscitation failed.
The 36-year-old was taken to the hospital due to her injuries. In the course of the followingnoon, the suspect – she is an Austrian citizen – was questioned. Baumschlager did not provide any further details on the findings.
The St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office ordered autopsies. In the market town in the Tulln district, which has around 2,400 inhabitants, the police were on a large scale operation well into the followingnoon. The State Criminal Police Office of Lower Austria – the area of life and limb and the crime scene group – is conducting the investigation. Murder is suspected.
At the request of the APA, Absdorf’s Mayor Franz Dam (ÖVP) described the events as “very terrible”. One was “shocked how something like this can happen”, “the whole community is of course shocked”.
