The man climbed the Dopplersteig with his partner at around 12:30 p.m. The two separated at the upper Rositte because the 36-year-old wanted to climb to the summit via the east ridge. But he fell into a steep rocky gully and suffered fatal injuries, Salzburg police reported in the evening.
The deceased was rescued by the Libelle police helicopter and his partner was cared for by the crisis intervention team. The Untersberg is a border mountain between Salzburg and Bavaria.
