In the midterms As of November 2022, 36 states held gubernatorial elections and each party won 18 of those races, meaning half are Democrats and half are Republicans.
Democrats flipped four governorships, one each in Arizona, one each in Massachusetts and one each in Maryland, and the Republicans won one governorship in Nevada.
With just over a month to go before the elections, governors-elect around the country are already planning their inauguration, while others have already been sworn in. Next, the dates and data:
Alabama. Republican Governor Kay Ivey was re-elected this year. Her estate will hold a dedication ceremony on January 16 in Montgomery.

Illinois. JB Pritzker is another governor who won re-election in his state and will be sworn in on January 9.

Kansas. Laura Kelly of the Democratic Party is the Governor of Kansas. She took office on January 14, 2019, and won re-election in November.

Oklahoma. Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt won re-election in November following an unexpectedly difficult contest with Democrat Joy Hofmeister.
- Stitt will be sworn in for his second term on January 9.
Oregon. Democratic Gov. Kate Brown is term-limited and was unable to run for re-election.
- She will be succeeded by Democrat Tina Kotek, who won the race in November. She will be sworn in on January 9.
Pennsylvania. Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf was also unable to run for re-election.

Tennessee. Republican Gov. Bill Lee was re-elected for another term in November. He will be sworn in on January 21.

Texas. Republican Greg Abbott defeated Democrat Beto O’Rourke in November to win another term as governor. He will be sworn in on January 17.
