Cicero Moraes, a Brazilian graphics expert who also recreated the appearance of a descendant of Amenhotep III, noted that his predecessor may have looked different from what was depicted in treasures and statues at the time, according to The Sun.
Moraes described the recreated face as “majestic,” and during the process he took into account the shape of Amenhotep I’s head while wearing the famous blue and gold headdress bearing the name of the pharaoh, saying: “The statues of Amenhotep I are consistent in the nose area.” The photos showed that the king was “more prominent in the chin area.”
Amenhotep’s details were based on a report issued in 2021, in which the pharaoh’s body was “almost exposed” through a CT scan.
Archaeologist Michael Habicht, co-author of the study with Moraes, said about the ruler, who is 5 feet 5 inches tall: “The study conducted in 2021 did not indicate the cause of death, but it determined his age at death at about 35 years.”
Habicht, who noted “a series of post-mortem injuries” likely caused by tomb robbers or the re-wrapping of his mummy’s remains, added that his “teeth were in good condition” and “his hair was curled.”
It is possible that Amenhotep took the throne as a child, and ruled with the help of his mother, Ahmose-Nefertari, according to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. It is believed that his rule lasted between two and three decades, as he led Egypt on campaigns into nearby Libya and Nubia.
Amenhotep I may also have played a major role in establishing the Valley of the Kings, a sacred resting place for the pharaohs.
