More than 20,000 spectators attended the thirteen performances of the 34th Montreux Comedy Festival which was held over ten days in Lausanne, welcome the organizers. The challenge posed by the temporary move to the Palais de Beaulieu was “fully met”.

Presented as the largest French-speaking humor festival in the world, this year’s event was placed under the sign of diversity and tolerance, notes the press release published at the end of Saturday.

A wide range of current French-speaking humor was presented, “from Romandy to Belgium, via sub-Saharan Africa, Paris, Marseille and Quebec”. Diversity was seen both “in the form, between music, dance, cabaret and mentalism, and in substance”, with a very wide variety of subjects, sometimes serious, note the organizers,

Laugh despite everything

“The only way to beat time is to laugh,” said French mentalist Fabien Olicard at the kick-off. Among the many celebrities and rising stars who performed throughout the ten days of the event were Gad Elmaleh, Fauve Hautot, Félix Dhian, Pierre Thévenoud, Jérémy Nadeau, Samuel Bambi, Thomas Wiesel, Elodie Poux and even Yann Marguet and Guillermo Guiz.

The hundred pieces of content produced and distributed on digital platforms reached some 70 million people on three continents, say the organizers. The artists’ message was well understood: to convey the need to continue to laugh and create despite the complexity of today’s world.

The 35th edition will take place from November 13 to 23, 2024, once more at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne, where the festival was already moved this year due to work at the 2m2c in Montreux.
