343 Industries will continue to be in charge of Halo development

Since the beginning of the week, new rumors have been swirling around 343 Industries, the current Xbox development studio in charge of the Halo franchise since 2011 with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. However, following the late and not as successful launch of Halo Infinite as many had hoped, new rumors have come to light that Microsoft has stopped entrusting its star franchise to the studio.

In an extensive thread of BathrobeCast On X (formerly Twitter), it was claimed that following the launch of Halo Infinite, many developers ended up leaving 343 Industries. While this is normal to a certain extent, voluntary departures have been combined with Mass layoffs in the industry as a whole.

As a result, 343 is said to have been reduced to a team of fewer than 300 people in total, the majority of whom are said to be made up of team members tied to the business aspects of the company, i.e. functioning more as a publisher than a developer.

The thread goes on to claim that there are two new Halo installments in a very early state of development and are only in pre-production; one is apparently tied entirely to PvP gameplay.

The other is supposed to be a new mainline Halo installment of some sort that might take place following the events of Halo Infinite. However, this project still seems incredibly far away, as 343 is restructuring its development and production methods.

Halo’s future report seems to be not entirely true

Although there were rumors circulating regarding the development of a new remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved With cross-platform features, the information provided by BathrobeCast has apparently been debunked

On the one hand, we have Jez Corden, a well-known Windows Central journalist who has served as a source for multiple leaks and reports related to Xbox and all of its studios (including 343 Industries), who has assured that the information is false.

“I checked out the latest Xbox rumor floating around that “343i won’t be developing Halo games” and will instead just “oversee” them – false in case you believe that.”

343 Community Manager John Junyszek responded to the rumor debunked by Jez Corden, noting that the hype surrounding Halo has always been intense.

While, at the time of writing, neither Microsoft nor the studio have made an official statement in response to the rumors, it is unlikely that this will happen until an official announcement of the next game in the franchise is made as these are just that… rumors.
