Sharing information between countries
On the same day, Thursday June 23, a meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) took place. At the end, the director general of the body, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, declared that “WHO asks all Member States to share information with us (l’OMS). In other epidemics, we have sometimes seen the consequences of countries’ lack of transparency, lack of information sharing”. Indeed, the health authority is concerned regarding the large number of people infected, especially in countries where the disease is not usually present.
A more common pathology in West and Central Africa

Over 3,200 cases of monkeypox worldwide
“Over 3200 confirmed cases of monkeypox and one death have been reported to WHO from 48 countries, including Nigeria, and five WHO regions, he added. In addition, since the beginning of the year, nearly 1,500 suspected cases (…) and around 70 deaths have been reported in Central Africa, mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but also in the Central African Republic and Cameroon”.
The majority of cases among MSM
For its part, Public Health France pleads for targeted communication towards men who have sex with men (MSM). “To date, as in other European countries, these cases have occurred mainly, but not exclusively, in MSM, with no direct link to people returning from endemic areas.explains the update from Public Health France. The majority of cases report multiple sexual partners”. Some doctors and associations point out that the key is to inform without stigmatizing for prevention to work.
