A man was indicted on Tuesday for kidnapping and forcible confinement in Orne, following having confessed, 33 years later, to having strangled his wife, without the body of the wife having been found, we learned Friday with the Alençon prosecutor’s office.
The woman was not “reported” missing until 2021, “by his two children, now adults, the facts dating back to 1989”specifies Annabelle Guignard, deputy prosecutor of Alençon in a press release confirming information revealed by the daily Ouest-France.
The prosecution had been seized for worrying disappearance on September 15, 2021.
According to Ouest-France, the children who became adults were six months and three years old in 1989.
“During their auditions, memories come back to them where their father” now 62 years old “mentioned, a handful of times, having killed their mother”, writes the regional daily. At the material time, the spouse had “told to anyone who will listen” that his wife had a lover and that she had to “run away with him”, adds the log.
According to the prosecution, “the first elements of the investigation” preliminary, opened in October 2021 for worrying disappearance, “highlighted a bundle of clues suggesting that the young woman had not left of her own free will”.
“Given the information collected, an introductory indictment on the count of arrest, kidnapping, forcible confinement without release before the 7th day was taken on April 25, 2022”, according to the press release.
“As part of the judicial investigation, a rogatory commission was entrusted to the Mortagne-au-Perche Research Brigade and confirmed that her husband might be linked to the disappearance of his ex-spouse”, according to the same source.
Placed in police custody on Monday, the suspect “from his first audition admitted having strangled” his wife, the prosecution said.
According to Ouest-France, he explained that he used a “wire from a telephone” to kill the mother of his children, and then buried the body.
“Investigations are currently underway to determine where the body is likely to be.”according to the prosecution, which did not respond to requests for clarification from AFP.
“The judge of freedoms and detention issued an order for placement under judicial supervision”according to the press release, which specifies that the prosecution has appealed this order.
