On Friday night, ELAS proceeded to arrest a 31-year-old man for the explosion in the 3rd floor apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi.
According to a relevant police announcement, the 31-year-old came of his own accord last night and as he allegedly said he has a relationship with the woman who received the keys to the apartment from the owner. The 31-year-old was arrested and is expected to be brought to the Prosecutor’s Office today.
What the 31-year-old claimed to the police
According to information, the 31-year-old is a mechanical engineer and was studying in Patras, while he was arrested in Germany, whose authorities were allegedly also involved with the owner’s son.
The 31-year-old appeared to the authorities as a witness, stating that he had gone with his 30-year-old girlfriend, who is wanted, to rent the apartment. As he said, they took the keys, but they never stayed in the apartment on Arkadias Street, because the 30-year-old left for abroad.
At the same time, he claimed that he does not know either the two people who were in the apartment when the bomb exploded, nor who was going in and out there, as he allegedly said that these people were his girlfriend’s acquaintances and not his.
The same information states that he claimed to the police that he did not give the keys anywhere and that his girlfriend left him the keys before leaving for abroad and he took them so that he would give them to the owner. However, it seems that what he said did not convince the police, who proceeded to arrest him.
Thriller with the identification of the dead
Thriller meanwhile exists with the identification of the man who lost his life, although based on the examination of his DNA and his fingerprints, it did not appear, at this stage, to have been involved in the past. Nevertheless, there are estimates and scenarios about the fact that this is a specific person of the anti-authoritarian space.
In case there is confirmation of his identity, then the common element will emerge which is none other than the fact that he, the two women who have been identified and the son of the owner who is in the Netherlands, have known each other for years as he was students in Patra, just like the 31-year-old who was arrested on Friday night.
The authorities are looking for the persons who entered and exited the apartment
At the same time, the group of young people who entered and exited the apartment are being searched for, among others, the 32-year-old multi-injured woman who is hospitalized in an extremely critical condition at the Evangelismos hospital and who was identified relatively immediately as her documents were found in the apartment. She has been involved several times since 2010, mainly with state security, while she is said to be active in the anti-authoritarian area, while the authorities also proceeded to identify another 30-year-old woman (she is the girlfriend of the 31-year-old who has been arrested), from the same area. who had received the keys to the apartment from the owner’s son who is in the Netherlands, a few days ago. It is noted that the 30-year-old woman herself may be outside of Greece, which is what the 31-year-old arrested man allegedly told the authorities.
In this context, footage from security cameras is being sought door-to-door in order to map the two women who have been identified, i.e. to identify their itineraries and their contacts, which may lead to the identity of the deceased, as well as the rest of the young people .

**Interview with Crime Analyst Dr. Elena Maris on the Recent Athens Apartment Explosion**
**Host:** Welcome back to our segment on current events. Joining us today is Dr. Elena Maris, a crime analyst with extensive experience in criminal investigations. We’re discussing the recent tragic explosion in an Athens apartment that resulted in one fatality. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Maris.
**Dr. Maris:** Thank you for having me.
**Host:** First off, can you give us some context regarding the explosion? What do we know so far?
**Dr. Maris:** The explosion occurred in a third-floor apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi, Athens, and a 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with it. The police report indicates that he claims to have rented the apartment with his girlfriend, who is currently missing and wanted for questioning.
**Host:** It sounds quite complicated. The man has stated that he didn’t know the two individuals present at the time of the explosion. How significant is this claim?
**Dr. Maris:** It’s quite significant. His repeated assertions of ignorance about the situation and the occupants lend a layer of complexity to the investigation. It raises questions about the relationship dynamics and the motives surrounding the rental of the apartment. His connection to the apartment through his girlfriend and the circumstances of their relationship may be critical in understanding the events leading up to the blast.
**Host:** What about the deceased? What have initial investigations revealed about him?
**Dr. Maris:** As of now, preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased’s identity is somewhat mysterious. His DNA and fingerprints have not matched any previous criminal records, which makes it challenging to ascertain his background or connections. This element of the case adds an intriguing and somewhat suspenseful aspect, as authorities continue to pursue leads about who he was and how he ended up in that apartment.
**Host:** The incident seems to be drawing a lot of attention. What are the police focusing on at this stage?
**Dr. Maris:** The police are likely concentrating not only on the 31-year-old man’s statements but also on tracing the movements and relationships of everyone involved—especially those who had access to the apartment. They’ll also be examining surveillance footage, phone records, and any possible links to organized crime, given the use of a homemade bomb.
**Host:** It’s a very troubling situation. What do you think could happen next in this investigation?
**Dr. Maris:** As he is brought before the Prosecutor’s Office, we can expect more detailed questioning. Depending on how reliable his alibi turns out and if any more evidence comes to light, they could either build a strong case against him or perhaps lead in another direction if new suspects or motives emerge.
**Host:** Thank you, Dr. Maris, for shedding light on this concerning incident. We hope for a swift resolution and justice for those affected by this tragedy.
**Dr. Maris:** Thank you for having me.
**Host:** And thank you, viewers, for tuning in. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
