The end of the holidays turns into a nightmare for nearly 300 Belgians. The travelers were due to return to Brussels this Thursday, with a TUI flight from Punta Cana, but the plane remained on the ground. After several false hopes and therefore return trips to the airport, the passengers are still stuck in the Dominican Republic, reports RTL.
TUI spokesperson Sarah Saucin confirms that 300 Belgians are stranded in Punta Cana because of a “plane breakdown”: “We are trying to find a solution as quickly as possible”, she says to our colleagues. The company is looking for another vehicle to make the journey. “At first we sent parts to repair the plane, unfortunately it didn’t work.”
In the meantime, travelers are accommodated by TUI. They will also benefit from compensation of 600 euros upon their return to Belgium. The latter are getting impatient, and criticizing the company’s lack of communication. “It’s not always easy with the time difference,” concedes Sarah Saucin.
Some were indignant to RTL, speaking of a “shame”. “My parents are stuck, my dad hasn’t had his medicine for three days,” explains yet another.
