Around fifteen animal shelters, the police, the public prosecutor’s office, vans… a big raid took place this morning on a property in Chastre and for good reason, since it involved seizing nearly 300 animals . Around a hundred dogs but also equines, horses, donkeys and ponies held in deplorable, undignified conditions, to the point where a dog was euthanized on site.
What is striking is that this is not the lady’s first attempt, far from it. She has been doing this for more than ten years: in 2011, 2013 and 2018 seizures have already taken place at her home, several dozen animals at each intervention.
Sébastien de Jonge, the director of ASBl Sans Collier was on site; asked about the repetition of these seizures, he explains: “In the eyes of the law, she has her detention permit, since no one has taken it away from her, the last seizures date from before the system, and at the level of justice there had been no ban on detention of ‘animals. As seizure is a principle which aims to secure animals – it is not a sanction as such – as long as there is no sanction behind it, the person can continue to take animals and we therefore finds himself here, at regular intervals, to take animals.“
And Sébastien de Jonge concludes: “OWe hope and expect a sanction, we must put an end to this.”
