A woman in her 30s accused of starving her own son to death was sent to the prosecution.

According to the Chungnam Police Agency on the 15th, the crime investigation team for women and juveniles handed over A to the prosecution with the opinion of arrest and indictment on charges of child abuse and murder under the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.

Person A is accused of having left her biological son, group B (6), who has intellectual disabilities, alone in a residential area in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do for regarding three weeks and did not look following him and eventually died.

On the 8th, the police arrived at the scene following receiving a report from an acquaintance of Mr. A to the effect that ‘the child seems to have died at home’ and found group B dead.

It is understood that the police received a “possible starvation” opinion from the National Forensic Research Institute. After confirming that this family was subject to child abuse case management, the police applied the charge of child abuse and murder to A, not the charge of child abuse and murder at the time of arrest.

A police official said, “I think that A might have foreseen the possibility of B’s death.”
