30% reduction in imports thanks to national companies

ALGIERS- Industrial companies active in the field of the electrical industry have contributed to increasing local production and reducing imports by 30%, said Tuesday in Algiers the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun.

Speaking during the work of a conference organized under the theme “national integration at the heart of Sonelgaz’s strategy”, the Minister indicated that companies in this segment of activity had contributed to the launch of the export of some local electrical products to several countries, mainly African.

In this regard, Mr. Aoun called on the players in this sector to improve their production capacities and to promote national integration to open up “promising prospects”.

The Minister also indicated that his department had taken a series of measures aimed at implementing this strategy through a roadmap for the organization of the electrical industry sector. This roadmap provides in particular for the establishment of a strategic commission for the sector in addition to the creation of a national cluster for the electrical industry, he added.

According to Mr. Aoun, an operation has been launched for the development of criteria and technical data sheets aimed at preserving the national product, in addition to granting approval to laboratories specializing in the conformity and quality control of the imported product and local.

This strategy also covers the subcontracting support component through the establishment of facilitations to support subcontracting companies and the expansion of their activities with a view to encouraging local production, reducing the electricity bill. import, organize and participate in various scientific and economic events at the national, African and international levels.

In addition, Mr. Aoun praised the efforts made by the services of his ministerial department sanctioned by the signing of a framework agreement which allowed the signing of a partnership agreement between the subcontracting exchanges and the Sonelgaz group.
